I have worked with Chinese companies and organizations since 2008 in realms as diverse as climate change, security studies, philosophy, supply chain management, and energy governance. I have a strong interest in promoting ethical and regenerative growth principles in China with a deep understanding of the Chinese context. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Energy Governance
Under the guidance of Dr. Bo Shen the China Energy Group at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, I worked on research and writing around energy governance for the National Development and Reform Commission. This work involved reviewing hundreds of energy efficiency policies and incentives, institutional models, and accountability mechanisms to inform China's energy policy design.
Greening Supply Chains
At NRDC Beijing's office, I worked with the International Finance Corporation to produce a market-scoping report to identify $100 million of potential investments in energy efficiency in China's textile industry. This report has now culminated in a major collaboration between NRDC and IFC called The Green Textile City Initiative.
I also worked with the Ma Jun and the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) to expose instances of pollution and provide supply chain management support for major international brands such as Apple, Wal-Mart, and Target. Our work culminated in several reports and press releases.
Contemporary Chinese Thought
In 2010, I translated an issue of Contemporary Chinese Thought on topics including neo-Confucianism, Daoism, and Roger Ames' interpretation of the Analects of Confucius. The issue I translated can be accessed here.
China Security
In 2008, I was an assistant editor of China Security, a peer-reviewed, referenced, interdisciplinary publication that explores issues related to U.S.-China relations, Chinese domestic security, nuclear energy, and other pressing security concerns in the East Asia region. The journal was unique in that it focused on translating work by Chinese scholars into English to help English-speaking policymakers and analysts better understand the Chinese context.
